Zeus is an 18-month-old mixed-breed boy who urgently needs a foster home and a chance to show us who he really is.

Zeus was surrendered to Dallas Animal Services after his family reported a history of seizure activity and said they could no longer afford his medical care. The shelter lists suspected epilepsy, although it is not yet known whether this has been formally diagnosed or what his medical needs will ultimately be.

What we do know is that Zeus is extremely frightened in the shelter environment. Staff describe him as shaking, nervous, keeping to himself, avoiding eye contact, licking his lips, and showing obvious signs of stress. Because he is so overwhelmed, shelter staff have appropriately kept interactions brief to avoid putting additional pressure on him.

At only 18 months old, Zeus is still very young. We don't know what his personality looks like outside of a stressful shelter kennel, and we don't know how much of his current behavior is simply fear. What we do know is that he deserves the opportunity to decompress somewhere safe and begin showing us the dog underneath the fear.

Zeus needs a calm, patient foster home that understands scared dogs may need time before they feel comfortable. His foster will need to provide structure, consistency, patience, and a quiet environment where he can begin building trust. He will also need veterinary evaluation to investigate his reported seizure history and determine what medical care he requires.

Because of his current medical uncertainty and fearful behavior, an experienced foster who is comfortable following veterinary recommendations and giving a dog time to adjust would be ideal.

Zeus must have placement by 11:00 AM on August 21.

Save Rocky is also seeking a medical sponsor to help cover Zeus's veterinary evaluation and any treatment he may need. If you cannot foster Zeus but would like to help give him a second chance, donations specifically for Zeus are greatly appreciated.

Zeus is scared, young, and in need of medical care, but his shelter behavior does not have to define him. He simply needs someone willing to give him the time and safety necessary to discover who he really is.
