Athena is a young Great Dane who desperately needs a safe place to land.
She is currently in an Atascosa County shelter as part of a cruelty case in which her owner is facing prosecution. Athena does not currently have a hard deadline, but she urgently needs to leave the shelter so she can begin receiving the care, nutrition, and stability she needs to recover.
Athena is estimated to be 1–2 years old and weighs approximately 63 pounds.
For a Great Dane, that is an extremely concerning weight. Her physical condition is poor, and she needs time, veterinary care, proper nutrition, and a safe environment where she can decompress and begin rebuilding her strength.
Despite everything she has endured, Athena is described as nervous but friendly. She appears to be dog-friendly, although her current condition makes a complete behavioral evaluation difficult. As she becomes healthier and more comfortable, we expect to learn much more about her personality.
