Sheeva is a young Great Dane who should never have had to endure what she has been through.
Sheeva is currently in an Atascosa County shelter as part of a cruelty case in which her owner is facing prosecution. While she does not currently have a hard deadline, she desperately needs out of the shelter and into a safe foster home where she can begin the long process of getting healthy, gaining weight, and learning what it means to be cared for.
At approximately 1–2 years old, Sheeva weighs only 48 pounds.
For a Great Dane, that is an incredibly alarming weight. She is the smallest of the three Danes involved in this case, and her condition is heartbreaking. She needs more than a shelter kennel can provide. She needs consistent nutrition, veterinary care, rest, patience, and most importantly, someone willing to show her that people can be kind.
Despite everything she has endured, Sheeva is reported to be friendly. The three girls appear to be dog-friendly, although their physical condition is so poor that a complete behavioral evaluation is difficult at this time.
Our priority is getting Sheeva somewhere safe so we can begin addressing her medical and nutritional needs and give her the opportunity to recover.
