Meet Turk

Turk is a gentle giant with one very simple wish: to be close to his people.

This big sweetheart is happiest curled up on the couch beside his humans, preferably under a blanket and receiving as many belly rubs as possible. He is affectionate, loyal, and incredibly people-oriented. He especially adores children and loves settling in with the family after school or at the end of the day.

Turk may love his couch time, but pick up his leash and you'll see a completely different side of him. He does a happy dance when it's time for a walk and enjoys short adventures, games of fetch, and playing with his favorite stuffed toys. He gets occasional bursts of zoomies, proudly grabs a toy, races around for a minute, and then heads right back to the couch.

Turk is house-trained and crate-trained and does well in the car. He settles nicely in his crate, although he may bark briefly at bedtime before relaxing. Given the choice, he would much rather be near his people and would especially enjoy being able to sleep in the same room as his humans.

The Foster Home Turk Needs

Turk can do well with dogs smaller than he is, but he is not comfortable around other large dogs and should not be placed in a home with them. As always, appropriate introductions and supervision are important when bringing dogs together.

Turk does have a strong prey drive and loves to investigate squirrels, rabbits, and other small creatures outdoors, so a home without cats or rodents would be best.

He also shows resource guarding around food and should always be fed separately from other animals. His foster will need to be comfortable following simple management practices around meals and high-value items to help everyone stay safe and successful.

Turk can pull on leash when something catches his attention, so his foster should be comfortable handling a large dog and willing to continue working with him on his leash manners.

Thunderstorms and loud noises are another challenge for this sensitive boy. They make him very anxious, and during storms he looks to his people for comfort and reassurance.

But when it comes to people, Turk has so much love to give.

He doesn't need a home filled with excitement. He needs someone who will appreciate a loyal companion who wants to take a leisurely walk, play a little fetch, and then spend the rest of the evening snuggled beside them.
