Nutmeg is a sweet, affectionate, happy-go-lucky girl who absolutely loves her people. She wants nothing more than to be near you, give you kisses, curl up at your feet, and soak up as much human attention as possible.

Unfortunately, Nutmeg needs a new placement urgently after an altercation with her foster home's resident dog over a toy.

Nutmeg has successfully lived with a much larger female Great Dane and has met other large dogs, but she has demonstrated resource guarding around toys and other high-value items. She may steal toys and then guard them, and this behavior recently escalated into a serious fight with the resident dog.

Because of this, Nutmeg needs a home that is prepared to carefully manage her environment. She cannot have free access to toys or other high-value items around other animals, and management will be essential for her safety. Her future placement needs to understand resource guarding and be committed to setting clear boundaries and preventing situations that could lead to conflict.

Outside of this issue, Nutmeg is a wonderful companion. She is affectionate, people-oriented, crate trained, house trained, and enjoys going for walks. Once she's had some activity, she's perfectly happy to lounge around with her people.

Nutmeg is also heartworm positive and has a history of a gunshot wound, so her foster or adopter will need to be committed to continuing her veterinary care and seeing her through treatment.

Nutmeg doesn't need a perfect home. She needs the right home — one that understands her limitations, can manage her resource guarding, and will appreciate the incredibly loving dog she is.
