LUNA

Location: Cassadaga, NY

Luna is a beautiful 4-year-old Great Dane/Great Pyrenees mix who is looking for a new home through no fault of her own. Her owner is relocating internationally and is unable to take Luna along.

Luna is a wonderful combination of gentle giant and goofy companion. She is house trained, walks nicely on leash, enjoys spending time outdoors, and loves attention from her people. She enjoys playing in the yard, watching the cows, and spending time with her canine friends. She has successfully lived with dogs, children, chickens, and cows.

Luna does, however, need a home that understands her individual needs and is willing to provide appropriate structure and management.

When Luna becomes fearful, anxious, overstimulated, or overwhelmed, she can become protective of her person. She has nipped people in situations where she felt uncomfortable, including when she was approached while resting. She has also experienced anxiety at the veterinarian when separated from her owner. Because of this history, Luna needs a family that understands canine body language, respects her boundaries, and is willing to give her space when she asks for it.

Luna's ideal home will be experienced with giant breeds and comfortable continuing to work with her on confidence, manners, and appropriate social interactions. New people should be introduced thoughtfully and at Luna's pace.

Another dog may be a possibility with proper introductions. Luna has lived successfully with other dogs and enjoys playing with canine companions, although she can be a silly and vocal player. Children may also be appropriate, but because of Luna's size and enthusiasm, supervision and appropriate boundaries will be important.

Luna may be able to live with cats, but she may want to chase them playfully, so careful introductions and management would be necessary.

Luna isn't looking for just any home. She needs someone who will take the time to understand her, advocate for her, and help her feel secure. In the right environment, with consistency and clear boundaries, she has the potential to be a wonderful companion.
