URGENT: Meet Liberty – A Sweet Girl Running Out of Time

Liberty is a beautiful, five-year-old merle Great Dane whose life is hanging in the balance. Despite being described by shelter staff as an incredibly sweet, calm girl, Liberty was scheduled for euthanasia, and her time is running out.

Liberty was scheduled to be euthanized tomorrow, but thankfully, shelter staff have agreed to give her one additional week because of her wonderful temperament. That extension is a gift, but it is not a guarantee of safety. We need to act quickly to make sure Liberty gets the second chance she deserves.

Liberty was surrendered to Rotan Texas Animal Control after reportedly killing chickens on her owner's property. While this history means she should not be placed in a home with poultry or other small farm animals, it does not define who Liberty is.

In fact, shelter staff have had nothing but kind things to say about her.

They describe Liberty as "a really calm girl" and "very sweet." She walks nicely on a leash, is reportedly house trained, and has shown no signs of agitation or aggression toward dogs housed in neighboring kennels.

Formal dog testing has not been possible, so her compatibility with other dogs remains unknown.

A Gentle Girl Who Deserves More Time

At five years old, Liberty should be enjoying the comforts of a loving home, not facing the possibility of losing her life in a shelter.

She appears to have been reasonably well cared for before her surrender, according to shelter staff, and her calm demeanor has made a lasting impression on those who have met her.

Liberty also has a mass on her side. Her previous owner reported that a veterinarian examined it and determined it was benign, but we do not have veterinary documentation confirming that diagnosis. She will need an examination to determine whether further testing or treatment is necessary.

With so many unknowns surrounding her medical history, Liberty deserves the opportunity to receive proper veterinary care and a thorough evaluation outside the shelter.

The Home Liberty Needs

Liberty would benefit from a calm, loving home where she can settle in, feel secure, and receive the care she needs.

Given her history, a home without chickens, poultry, or other small farm animals is essential. Her compatibility with cats and dogs will need to be carefully evaluated, and any introductions should be handled slowly and safely.

What we do know is that Liberty has made an incredibly positive impression on the people caring for her. Her sweet nature, calm personality, and good leash manners suggest she has so much potential to be a wonderful companion.

We Have Hope for Liberty, But We Need to Move Quickly

The shelter has generously offered a one-week extension because they believe this girl deserves a chance. We cannot let that opportunity slip away.

Liberty's life should not end simply because her previous home was not the right fit.

If you can help foster, adopt, transport, or support Liberty's rescue, please reach out to Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue & Rehab.

Every share helps us reach the people who can make her rescue possible.

Liberty has been given a little more time. Now we need to turn that time into a second chance.
