Meet Sadie

Sadie is a beautiful 3½-year-old Great Dane/Weimaraner mix with the sweetest eyes, a playful spirit, and plenty of love to give.

This fun-loving girl still has a little puppy energy and absolutely lights up when she has room to play. One of her favorite things is chasing balls around the yard, and her long Dane legs give her the cutest loping walk while she does it.

Sadie has moderate energy and settles nicely after playtime. She loves being near her people without needing to be on top of them and is perfectly content lying at your feet, enjoying belly rubs, or simply hanging out nearby. She also politely keeps herself off the furniture.

Sadie is 100% house trained and currently lives with three other dogs. She has done very well with them and mostly just wants everyone to play! She has been successful with dogs approximately 40 pounds and larger and could enjoy a compatible medium-to-large canine companion. She would also be perfectly happy as an only dog. Small dogs and cats are currently unknown.

Sadie previously spent time around her family's grandchildren and reportedly did well with them, although she could occasionally jump when excited. She has not interacted directly with children in her current foster home, so any home with children would need to be considered individually.

Building Sadie's Confidence

Sadie's biggest challenge is being restrained or leashed. She can become extremely frightened when someone attempts to grab or restrain her and may react out of fear if startled. Once her leash is on, she settles considerably and can walk short distances, but traditional walks are not something she currently enjoys.

Car rides also make her nervous. She doesn't voluntarily get into the vehicle and currently needs assistance getting in, but once inside, she does reasonably well. She can also be startled by sudden or loud noises.

Sadie needs a foster who will respect these fears and use patient, positive training to help build her confidence rather than forcing her through situations that frighten her.

She does well with adults and visitors. Although she can initially be timid with someone new, she warms up quickly and enjoys affection once she feels comfortable.

Sadie also experiences some separation anxiety, so a home where someone is around frequently would be especially helpful. She has experience with a crate and, although she doesn't love going into it, she settles once inside. Covering the crate with a blanket helps her feel more secure.

Sadie's Ideal Foster Home

A securely fenced yard would be highly beneficial for Sadie, allowing her to exercise and enjoy her beloved ball games without relying on walks while she continues working on her leash confidence.

Her ideal foster will provide a relatively calm, predictable environment and understand that trust takes time. She could live with compatible medium-to-large dogs or be the only dog in the home.

Underneath her fears is an incredibly sweet, playful girl who loves her people, belly rubs, ball games, and simply being included in everyday life.

At just 3½ years old, Sadie has so much life and love ahead of her. She doesn't need someone to rush her—she needs someone willing to give her the safety, patience, and stability she needs to keep blossoming.
