DANTE

Location: Georgetown, KY

Meet Dante

If Dante could choose his perfect place to be, there's a pretty good chance it would be wherever his people are.

This handsome 2-year-old Great Dane is affectionate, people-oriented, and very enthusiastic about finally getting to experience life as part of a family.

Dante and his brother, Rugger, spent most of their lives living outdoors before being surrendered to a rural shelter that didn't have room for them. With nowhere else to house the boys, they were placed in outdoor kennels behind a landfill.

And just like that, "The Landfill Hooligans" got their nickname.

Their circumstances weren't funny, but thankfully their story didn't end there.

Now Dante is safe in a temporary foster home, learning about indoor life and showing us more of his goofy, affectionate personality every day.

Dante absolutely loves his people. He's the more people-focused of the brothers and wants to be involved in whatever his humans are doing. He's still figuring out concepts like personal space, but that's part of his charm—and part of what he's continuing to learn.

He walks well on leash and has made great progress with potty training, especially considering how little experience he previously had living inside a home.

Life With Other Dogs

Dante currently lives with other large dogs in his temporary foster home, but he is still developing his canine social skills.

He can become overly excited during interactions and doesn't always recognize when another dog is telling him that playtime is over. He isn't trying to cause trouble—he simply needs help learning appropriate play, boundaries, and how to settle himself when his excitement gets the better of him.

His future foster or adopter should be prepared to provide structure, supervise interactions, and introduce any resident dogs slowly and appropriately.

A compatible canine companion may absolutely be possible with the right introductions and management.
