Important: Violet and Leo are courtesy-posted dogs and are not currently part of Save Rocky the Great Dane Rescue & Rehab. However, you can apply to foster either dog through SRGDRR.
Sometimes life changes in ways our pets don't understand. Violet and Leo recently lost their home after their family experienced financial hardship and an upcoming move. Now, these two beautiful Great Danes are looking for a fresh start and a family willing to give them the love and security they deserve.
Meet Violet
Black female Great Dane
7 years old
118 lbs
Violet is a calm, reserved girl who takes a little time to warm up to new people and surroundings. During a recent visit, she quietly explored the yard, showed off her impressive "shake," and calmly observed other dogs without barking.
She's looking for someone patient who will allow her the time and space to feel comfortable and build trust. Once she knows she's safe, she has the opportunity to show just how wonderful she can be.
Meet Leo
Harlequin male Great Dane
5 years old
146 lbs
Leo is a friendly, social boy who was excited to recognize his visitor and happily approached both visitors for attention and pets. He enjoyed spending time outside, drinking from the garden hose, and soaking up the fresh air.
Leo does pull on leash and would benefit from some additional work on his walking manners, but he's an enthusiastic companion who seems happy to make new friends.
What We Know About Both Dogs
Both Violet and Leo:
Are reportedly house-trained.
Have previously lived with other dogs, cats, and children aged 8 and older.
Showed no reaction to cats they passed during their recent visit.
Went potty immediately when taken outside.
Returned to their kennels without difficulty.
Are heartworm-negative and current on their listed vaccines and preventatives.
The shelter is currently treating Violet for eye symptoms and Leo for congestion. Their current medical needs and spay/neuter status should be confirmed directly with the shelter.
Although they have shared a home, Violet and Leo are not considered bonded and can be placed separately. Keeping them together would be wonderful if the right home can accommodate both, but finding each of them a safe and loving placement is the priority.
