ELLIE MAY
Location: Mathis, TX
Deadline: June 24
Miss Ellie May was found alone on a rural highway during a thunderstorm and has been lovingly cared for by her finder ever since. Although no owner came forward, several people reported seeing her wandering days before she was finally brought to safety. Despite being advised to surrender her to a shelter, her finder chose to give Ellie May the chance she deserves and has gone above and beyond to ensure she receives proper care.
Ellie May is currently undergoing slow-kill treatment for heartworms after completing a month of doxycycline. She is not yet spayed because she was discovered while in heat. She is current on Rabies, Bordetella, and DA2PP vaccines, receives NexGard monthly, and her Leptospirosis vaccine will be updated as well.
This affectionate 84-pound girl is a laid-back companion who enjoys lounging on the porch, playing fetch, and spending time with her people. She walks beside her humans whenever she can, rarely barks, and loves attention, often leaning in for pets and affection. She has been friendly with visiting family members and has shown no signs of food aggression.
Ellie May is house trained, crate trained, car trained, and walks well on leash. She is adult-friendly, while compatibility with children is unknown. Because she is currently in heat and receiving treatment, she has been somewhat selective with other animals. She initially displayed some toy guarding and occasionally growled when the finder’s Dachshunds approached her kennel, though outside of those situations she attempted to engage them in play. She coexisted peacefully with the finder’s neutered Golden Retriever and has shown selective but manageable behavior around cats, largely ignoring the resident cat in her foster home. Ellie May also prefers to be indoors during storms.
Ellie May would do best in a home that can provide a balance of relaxation and play. She enjoys lounging around the house but appreciates having space to stretch her legs and burn off the occasional zoomies. Above all, she is looking for a family that will offer her the stability, companionship, and love she so clearly craves.
