Foster

Fostering does more than save the life of a single Great Dane — it helps fight overpopulation, reduces the strain on high-kill shelters, and stands against the cycle of neglect and abuse.

By opening your home, you become their bridge to a forever family, giving them the chance to finally know what love truly is.

We urgently need fosters all across the United States.

Be their helping hand to a new life. Fill out our foster application and start changing lives today.

Volunteer Opportunities

  • There are so many ways you can make a difference for our Great Danes! Here are just some of the volunteer roles we’re looking to fill:

    …and many other opportunities.

We’re also open to hearing how you’d like to help! Tell us your skills and interests — we’d love to find the perfect way for you to support our mission.

Our team primarily uses Shelter Manager, Google Workspace, Gmail, and Facebook Messenger for our foster chats, so experience with these tools is a big plus.

Get in touch through the application that best fits your skill set, and let’s make a difference together. We can’t wait to connect with you!

Foster Expectations

  • Thank you for opening your heart and home to a foster dog. Fostering is one of the most critical roles in our rescue. To ensure the safety and well-being of our dogs, as well as clear communication with you, here’s what we expect from all of our fosters:

    • Absolutely no abuse will be tolerated.

    • Provide the foster dog with some basic training and help them adjust to home life.

    • Give Team Rocky regular updates on how your foster dog is doing.

    • Supply a written bio and photos of your foster dog to help us find them a forever home.

    • Team Rocky pays all medical expenses; you provide food, toys, daily care, and love.

    • Your foster dog must stay within your care — they may not be sold, rehomed, gifted, or given to a third party.

    • If you plan to travel or be away, you must notify us and get alternate care approved. (Please note: Team Rocky does not pay for alternate boarding or petsitting.)

    • Provide proper nutrition, shelter, attention, and interaction.

    • Foster dogs are to be inside dogs, not kept outside.

    • Give your foster dog at least 3 weeks to decompress without introductions to new dogs. They may be fearful or display unusual behaviors during this time.

    Introductions After Decompression

    • Start with slow, parallel walks.

    • Move to introductions on neutral ground in your yard with leashes dropped.

    • Then allow slow indoor introductions with no food or toys present.

    • Always let them acclimate at their own pace.

    • Have baby gates or barriers ready to separate the foster dog from your other pets if needed.

    Additional Care & Safety Expectations

    • The foster dog must never be tied up outside.

    • Provide routine care, including feeding, clean water, and regular health checks.

    • No dog parks. We avoid unnecessary risks and unpredictable situations.

    • Never walk your foster dog off-leash unless in a secure, fenced area.

    • No shock or pinch collars may be used on any foster dog.

If You Can No Longer Foster

    • Please give us at least 30 days’ notice so we can find another foster placement.

    Want to Adopt Your Foster?

    • You have the first choice to adopt your foster dog during the first 3 weeks of having them. After that period, the dog will be available for adoption to approved applicants.
(Some call it a foster failure — we prefer to call it a “retroactive adoption” just for fun!)

Our Values

Teamwork.

Teamwork truly makes the dream work. At Team Rocky, continuous innovation and a genuine sense of family are at the heart of how we operate. We believe that by working together, supporting one another, and always striving to grow, we can change countless lives — both human and canine.

Together, we’re stronger. Together, we save more.

Commitment.

Our commitment to making a difference and improving the lives of those who have been neglected is exactly why SRGDRR was created. We step up when others step down, standing firmly for the dogs who need us most.

Because when others turn away, we turn toward — ready to help, heal, and give hope.

Committed to those left behind.

Integrity.

Providing the best quality of care and finding the right solution for each situation is always our goal. Honesty and accountability are at the core of who we are — values we live by and hope to always be known for.

Because doing what’s right, even when it’s hard, is the only way we know how to be.

Integrity first. Always.

Passion.

Our boldness to take action and our determination to see real results are proof of how deeply we care. We pursue our mission with urgency, always learning and growing so we can do even more for the dogs who need us.

Because true passion doesn’t wait — it acts.

Fueled by passion. Driven to act.
