JOLENE

Location: Georgetown, TX

Meet Jolene
Age: 1 year
Breed: Great Dane (Double Merle)
Weight: Approximately 125 lbs
Special Needs: Deaf, with one eye

Meet Jolene, a beautiful, affectionate, and wonderfully goofy Great Dane with a heart as big as her paws! At just one year old and approximately 125 pounds, Jolene is still very much a puppy, full of enthusiasm, curiosity, and love. She has an incredible personality, but like many young giant breeds, she hasn't quite figured out just how big and strong she really is.

Jolene is a double-merle Great Dane who was born deaf and has only one eye. One of her eyes had a defect that required surgical removal after she arrived in her current home. She has since made a wonderful recovery, her surgical site is completely healed, and she sees well with her remaining eye. Her disabilities certainly don't slow her down, and she approaches life with all the excitement and energy of a happy young Dane.

Jolene is a loving girl who enjoys being around her people. She's playful, affectionate, and full of personality. However, her size, strength, and youthful exuberance mean she needs a family prepared to provide consistent training, structure, and guidance as she matures.

Training & Personality

Jolene is still learning her household manners and will need an adopter committed to continuing her education. She is making progress with crate training and currently walks on a leash using a Gentle Leader.

Because Jolene is deaf, her training requires a slightly different approach. She will benefit from someone willing to use visual cues, hand signals, positive reinforcement, and consistent routines to help her understand expectations and build confidence.

Jolene loves to play, but she plays hard! Her enthusiastic personality and lack of awareness of her own size have made life challenging for the other dogs in her current home. Her rambunctious behavior has also resulted in accidental injuries to two elderly family members.

These incidents were not described as intentional aggression, but they demonstrate why Jolene needs a home capable of safely managing her strength and energy.

Jolene's Ideal Home

Jolene would thrive with an experienced, patient family who understands the unique needs of young giant breeds and is prepared to help her grow into a well-mannered adult.

Her ideal home would offer:

  • Experience with Great Danes or other giant breeds.

  • An understanding of deaf dogs, or a willingness to learn appropriate training techniques.

  • Consistent positive reinforcement, structure, and ongoing training.

  • A physically capable adopter who can safely manage a strong, energetic 125-pound dog.

  • A stable environment with enough space for her to play and mature.

  • A household without elderly or physically vulnerable individuals who could be accidentally injured by her exuberance.

  • Careful consideration of any resident dogs, as her rough play style may be overwhelming for some companions.

Why Jolene Needs a New Home

Jolene's current family welcomed her into their home because they wanted to prevent her from ending up in a shelter. They have provided her with love, medical care, surgery, and training, doing everything they could to give her a wonderful life.

Unfortunately, despite their dedication, Jolene's size and energetic behavior have become increasingly difficult to manage around their elderly family members and other dogs. They recognize that their home is no longer the safest or most appropriate environment for her.

This decision has not been made lightly. They love Jolene deeply and want nothing more than to see her succeed with a family who can meet her needs.

Help Jolene Find Her Forever Home

Jolene has so much love to give and an entire lifetime ahead of her. Her deafness and vision differences don't define her, and with the right guidance, patience, and environment, she has the potential to become an incredible companion.

She doesn't need someone who expects perfection. She needs someone who understands that she's a giant puppy still learning about the world and is willing to help her become the best version of herself.

Jolene urgently needs a new home where she can thrive. Her current living situation is no longer sustainable, and finding an appropriate placement as soon as possible is a priority.

If you have experience with giant breeds, the patience to work with a deaf dog, and room in your heart and home for this very special girl, Jolene may be the companion you've been waiting for.

Jolene doesn't need just any home. She needs the right home, and she deserves every chance to find it.
