Athena and Bruno are a bonded pair of senior Great Danes looking for a new foster home after an unexpected change in their current placement. Their foster family welcomed them with open hearts, but it quickly became clear that the home wasn't the right fit for everyone involved.
These gentle giants were abandoned in Mexico before making the long journey to safety. After spending hours traveling with unfamiliar people and adjusting to an entirely new environment, they've understandably been under a great deal of stress. Even so, they have shown many wonderful qualities that make them deserving of a patient, experienced foster home.
Both Athena and Bruno are affectionate dogs who love attention from their people. They ride beautifully in the car and walk well on leash, making them enjoyable companions for outings. Athena could benefit from losing a little weight, while Bruno is working on gaining some healthy pounds.
Because of their recent experiences and the upheaval they've been through, they are still learning the routines of home life. Athena is sensitive to thunderstorms and can become anxious during bad weather. They have shown a strong prey drive toward cats and are not suitable for homes with feline companions. Athena has also demonstrated that she is not comfortable around small dogs, so they are looking for a home without small pets.
They will thrive with a foster family that understands large breeds, can provide structure and guidance, and is willing to help them continue settling into a safe, predictable routine. They are still learning basic household expectations and will benefit from patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement as they decompress.
