Meet Aslan

Aslan is a handsome 1-year-old fawn Great Dane/German Shepherd mix who needs an experienced foster home where he can receive structure, appropriate management, and plenty of opportunities to channel his young-dog energy.

Aslan is described as affectionate, playful, and cuddly. He loves being with his people, enjoys exercise and social outings, and has done well around other dogs both during training and in public settings. He is house trained, knows basic obedience, rides well in the car, and is already neutered and gastropexied.

Aslan would especially enjoy having another compatible dog who appreciates his rough-and-tumble style of play. A large, securely fenced yard with a tall fence would also be ideal.

An Important Part of Aslan's Story

Aslan has significant reactivity toward bicycles, and his future foster must be prepared to manage this carefully.

After escaping through the front door, Aslan chased and tackled a man riding a bicycle and bit him on the buttocks. After the bicycle was dropped, Aslan continued following the rider while displaying concerning behavior.

Because of this incident, Aslan needs a foster who takes his bicycle reactivity seriously. Preventing opportunities to escape, maintaining secure doors and fencing, and safely managing him around bicycles will be essential while this behavior is addressed.

Life With Aslan

Aslan generally does well with adults and enjoys human companionship. His compatibility with children is not yet established. He has been around an infant but generally kept his distance and preferred following the adults.

He is dog friendly and may benefit from having another compatible dog in the home. He can become jealous when the resident dog takes his toys, however, so toys and other valued resources should be appropriately managed.

His compatibility with cats is unknown.

Aslan can pull while walking on leash and will benefit from continued training. He may also experience separation anxiety, which could be contributing to destructive behavior when his family isn't home.

The Foster Home Aslan Needs

Aslan is still a very young dog, and he has many wonderful qualities to build on. He's affectionate, playful, social with other dogs, house trained, enjoys being active, and already has basic obedience skills.

His ideal foster will be experienced with large dogs and comfortable managing reactivity. A secure home environment and tall fenced yard are strongly preferred, along with someone willing to continue his training and provide appropriate physical and mental enrichment.

Another compatible, playful dog could be a wonderful outlet for him.

Aslan's bicycle incident cannot be overlooked, but it also isn't the only thing that defines this young dog. He needs an experienced person who can provide the management, boundaries, training, and consistency necessary to keep both Aslan and the people around him safe.
